You would love it here! It's so safe, clean and well, beautiful! The roads are well landscaped with tropical plants and flowers. It is a very developed country. It's making me feel rather safe (which is a risky thing for a traveller to get used to). Basically, I'm getting pampered. Even on the school campus there are orchids everywhere. As if they were common and easy to maintain! There is also a beautiful pond with lilies and their Lily pads, big colourful fish and sparkling water. What a place!
We've been grocery shopping with the populous and found it to be a bit more normal (imperfect), which means that we've got to explore more to find the true nature of Singapore. This weekend we plan to walk around a number of neighbourhoods to get a better sense. The only negative thing I have to say about Singapore is that it's really humid! The temperature is around 30 degrees (give or take) but the humidity takes it up to about 38-40 degrees. It's a bit gross. And like Sao Paulo, people wear pants to go out. I don't know, but I think I will be getting a few more skirts. It's wayyyy to hot to walk around in pants!
About the people: Singapore is predominantly Eastern Chinese. The Chinese from the west have more Indian influence and typically have darker skin. There are some Thai, Vietnamese and Indian people here as well. The food is spicy (or not). Chinese is not, but Thai and Indian is. It's a big mix.
Since arriving in "S'pore" as the expats call it, I've been spending many hours on a travelogue of St.Petersburg. It's getting rather long, but I figure only those who feel like knowing more will read it. I'm having a good time doing it. :) The next step is to sort the photos so I can post both simultaneously. Surreal!
